Side-Effects of Testosterone
For the performance enhancer there is always a side-effect concern and since testosterone is without question the primary hormone used the primary concern revolves around the side-effects of testosterone. When we supplement with any steroid there is a chance a negative reaction may occur; how great is the chance? This is a question that does not carry a direct one size fits all answer. The side-effects of testosterone can be dependent on many factors but it remains one of the safest hormones any adult male could ever use.
Highly Tolerated:
As testosterone is not a foreign substance to the human body it is generally a well-tolerated hormone when applied exogenously. This is not a hormone the body is unfamiliar with, the body does not experience shock when exogenous testosterone is applied; your body has been accustomed to the hormone all of your life. While your body is very accustomed to the hormone it still remains it is a hormone that demands to be treated with respect. The side-effects of testosterone use can be very real and while most men will be fine it is those who supplement irresponsibly that will most commonly find a problem. This is not to say even responsible users won’t fall prey to the side-effects of testosterone, it can still happen; some people can’t drink a sip of milk or eat a single peanut without getting sick but most all responsible users will be fine. What this tells us is that while there is a potential for negative side-effects the probability remains low and only increases when responsibility is thrown aside; again, we are speaking of most healthy adult men and no one else.
Cause & Effect:
The side-effects of testosterone are largely brought on by a buildup of estrogen that occurs due to the increased levels of the testosterone hormone. The testosterone hormone aromatizes and converts into estrogen and as estrogen increases many problems can occur. Of course the more testosterone that is applied the more there is to convert and again this is one of the reasons responsible use is so important. This does not mean supraphysiological doses of the hormone cannot be applied, the New England Journal of Medicine proved many years ago that they absolutely could. Individual genetic response is a very important factor that must be considered; recall from above, some people can eat peanuts and others can’t. There are those who can take massive amounts of the hormone and never show a single side-effect while there are others who will look at a bottle and fall prey to the side-effects of testosterone overnight; there is simply no way to predict it but responsible use will still always be your best friend.
Actual Side-Effects of Testosterone:
There are six common side-effects of testosterone and almost all of them are avoidable with responsible use and the one that is not is 100% reversible. The side-effects of testosterone include:
-
Gynecomastia
- Excess Water Retention or Bloat
- High LDL Cholesterol
- Low HDL Cholesterol
- High Blood Pressure
- Testicular Atrophy
