Prohormones are not anabolic steroids; not as we understand anabolic steroids to be; they are however in many cases anabolic steroid derivatives or in some cases more aptly precursors. Prohormones are a “supplement” a strong one with anabolic characteristic but many argue prohormones are not a supplement worth taking. The argument is simple; the risk factor far outweighs the reward. Even so, many people prefer prohormones for one simple fact; they’re legal, at least some are, many have already been deemed schedule III under the Steroid Control Act of 2004. This begs to question, is the legality of something enough reason to assume it’s safe? Cigarettes are legal but would anyone with half a brain even pretend to deem these items a mirror of perfect health? Of course not and in many cases we can say the same regarding prohormones; many times but not always, this is why personal education is so very important. Take for example testosterone, a hormone the body produces naturally and is often administered in excess form. Taking exogenous testosterone without a prescription is illegal, yet many with sound judgment and proof can argue the validity of this practice yet it remains illegal. This is an important aspect to take into consideration regarding anything you put in your body including prohormones; obey the law, always obey the law but never take the laws word as absolute gospel truth; you’ll be left sitting in the dumbass corner if you do.
Do prohormones work, this is the question most are curious about and the answer is simple; sure they work, depending on which ones you buy but if they have the ability to work how on earth are they at times legal? As discussed, prohormones are “derivatives” they are hormones that cause an anabolic action or conversion to take place in the body. Many prohormones are structurally similar to Methandrostenolone (Dianabol, DBOL) but let’s be clear, there is a right way and a wrong way to make dbol and it is in this alteration we often find two problems. Many times this alteration can lead to the prohormones being more toxic than the real thing, further, because of its very close relation to a true blue anabolic steroid, more times than not it finds itself banned just as it’s born.
It is a bit of a conundrum, prohormones present a bit of a difficult choice; we’re speaking of legal prohormones, ones you can still buy from your local supplement shop. As prohormones many times prove to be more toxic than their anabolic steroid counterparts they hold the distinction as being legal without a prescription. On one hand you have the assured safety of the law on your side but your health risk increase; on the other hand you have a safer and more effective product if you use anabolic steroids but you are now outside the safety of the law. Like all things regarding performance enhancing there is a risk to reward ratio and only you can decide which way the scale tips and this includes the discussion of prohormones.
